Excuse me while I kiss the sky…

jimi-hendrix

Hey joe! Guess what happened last night? I was on the crosstown traffic near the fire and quess what? I saw an angel walking with a midnight lamp near the highway chile. You know where it is right? Close to the watchtower, made of sand and the huge star spangled banner representing a machine gun. Well anyway, it was quite a shock! You know like being stabbed by a dolly dagger or like if 6 was 9… See what I mean? Some kind of a sweet, gentle surprise.

She was hot you know, a real foxy lady, with the gypsy blood, the voodoo child look and all you know. So I said: hey baby you and we gotta live together. I sware you I did man! Shit I was bold as love. She was playing it shy like: oh can you see me?! So I said: sure babe! I know it sounds crazy! But who knows what the power of love can do?!

She was under my charm man! She said we could find a way. I just had to wait until tomorrow at the red house. Once there, I had to feel the little wing listen to the earth blues and if I was really into it, the wind would cry mary and she would regain her freedom.

Weel as you guess I woke right afterwards, but man! I still have purple hazes all in my brain! I mean, that was so beautiful. If only the magic could have lasted a bit longer. Just a bit longer… Who knows all the wonders I could have discovered?

Swimming in a salted sea

corto1

This is probably my favourite comic. Corto Maltese. Even the name of the protagonist inspires adventures and dreams. Hugo Pratt’s drawing is rough and colourless. But once one manages to look beyond it, a new window appears filled by fragrances and mysteries. It is very rare to meet such a narrative exception. There are no happy endings, no big bad guy to defeat, and no common love stories… Corto is just following his desires and his aimless quests. He meets beautiful women, singular characters and hangs around with a crazy psychopath.

What I appreciate the most is the whole atmosphere. Pratt used a lot of historical facts and mystical episodes in his stories. The combination between hard reality and dreams create a very special feeling. What’s more, the characters all have a quirky charm. Eventually, the dialogues rock! They are a blend of poetry and simplicity.

ps: Here is a web map I made about Corto Maltese

It will give you a lot more information.

Still not satisfied?

rolling-stones-20080223-381213

Last winter I was lost, rambling around midnight, I was missing you... Angie... I could not get satisfaction. I knew we could not always get what we wanted, yet I still felt shattered. I know I was a fool too cry for a honky tonk woman like you but I did not want to hide my love. I know, it was only rock and roll. I was a free street fighting man, you started me up, I jumped on you in a flash. I made love to you like a wild horse and you even called me your little monkey man…

Now that seems a 100 years ago. I barely remember the brown sugar taste of your lips or the stars in your eyes. Babe, you were my shelter, the salt of my earth. See babe, when you left me I had such sad days I tried everything to forget you. I knew that god could nothing else than make a saint of me… So I went to the devil and he showed me sympathy. He painted me in black and made me hear that music for broken heart which goes like doo doo doo doo doo… Eventually I got a heart of stone. And now each and every day of the year is a wondeful rainbow.

Ain’t it funky?!

james-brown-1

Today I woke up in cold sweat. I dreamt that there were only men in this world; I thought we could only have sex with machine. Then a white lightning struck and it was sunny outside. Ooooh! I felt so good! Sunrays started to hot my pants… It was time for payback. Hey America heard me! I was back and I was proud! I got up of that bed on the good foot, took my dad’s brand new bag and had a funky good timeChicago’s ladies had a hell of a stormy Monday!

Bring on the Juice

medium_james_brown

We all know James Brown. The Godfather is far far away now, but the groove remains. And what a groove! I could talk about it for hours, so let’s juste select one song…. Funky drummer!

Not so famous, not so original, but so powerful! The intro’s smoothness! James’ voice (and poetical lyrics :) over the perfect blend of all instruments! What a song! Yet, it has not been called funky drummer for no reason! It is really amazing to have such a beat whith so much  softness. The drums is not especially deep, flat or loud, even the bass is very light. Then, how can they get our feet to move like that?? Well I guess that this the funk’s magic!

Have you met Barney?

63973693xr6

Lately I have been watching the sitcom How I met Your Mother. Let’s say I watched too much of it. I start to say Awesome, Freak and Legend…ary! Now I even expect to hear a whole crowd laughing when I make up a joke…

Seriously enough, I really fell in love with this sitcom. I will probably talk about it later, but today I just want to give a toast to Sir Barney Stinson!

Barney is the one who publicly lives up to its vicious standards. He is the one who helps that little dark part of the masculine brain to assume itself. And he is the soul of how I met your mother! Thank you Barney!

If you want to discover a few things concerning Barney:

When the levee breaks

Here are a few images that I selected and modified to illustrate the incredible atmosphere of this song (Led Zeppelin).

I planned to put the video on youtube, but there is a copyright issue with the music.

Anyway, I found it thrilling to work on expressing music with images, I hope that you will feel a bit of the song through the images, or a bit of the images through the song…

Clic, hhhhuffff and pffffffooo…

Waow! Who is Jonathan Levine?? To direct such a movie, he must be seriously not serious! Smoke, unreal sunrays and heavy hip-hop constantly fill the atmosphere inside Wackness. I loved it!

I think this the kind of movie that you cannot utterly understand the first time (like Memento, Michael Clayton or Matrix). Yet, when the end comes you are in a mess. Thinking about it, analysing scenes or just drown by a strange feeling. Usually it takes a few minutes to get back to the old reality. I do not know much about taste in cinema. I find it really hard to judge a movie and to justify its goodness or crapness. Anyway, when I fell like that I want to say: Thanks Mr Levine (and the whole team).

If you want to know more about Wackness and see different opinions,  I’ll advise you these articles:

I’m just talkin’bout my…

jk-rowling
We have all heard about this guy. Most of us read the books and sometimes saw the movies. We have all been drawn into that crazy commercials fury few years ago. I even like to think that a majority dreamt to go to Hogwarts a long time ago.
Whatever category you might fit into, you share the Potter’s bond. Evada Kedavra, Quidditch or Death Eaters, you know the meaning of these strange words. Today I do not have the same genuine enthusiasm concerning J.K. Rowling’s writings.
Yet I noticed that we have all been touched by the phenomena. The Potter’s whirlwind was so powerful that I think it is a generational object. We saw that little boy grow up while we were building ourselves. We talked about it with friends, read and reread the books during the holidays. Such a bond is strong and I am glad to know that I can talk or argue about it with people from “my generation”.
You left quite a trace JK!

Who’s your daddy?

1513_54832100_robin_williams_i_jac_

Robin Williams

This guy is amazing! I love what he does! He is the genius in Aladdin, the radio speaker in Good Morning Vietnam, the crazy teacher in Dead Poet’s Society and Allan in Jumanji (childhood’s memories…). But all of that is nothing compared to Robin Williams on stage!! Gosh I have never seen such a show! He swears all the time, speaks with a dozen different accents and keeps on doing silly moves.
He turns every serious subject in a hilarious parody. He notices those small absurd details that show how much world is getting crazy. But instead of blaming it, he just laughs about it and express how good he feels out there.
I hope that you will make us laugh a lot Robin! Please keep on this way.

Here I put loads of his hilarious shows and crazy videos: Gooood Morning Vietnam!!
